The crew on board Draken is a team of 34 people, men, and women from all over the world. A mix of age, gender, nationality, and background all contribute to a great atmosphere on board.

There are two categories of crew onboard:

  • Professional Crew

  • Deckhand Crew

Recruiting Status

We are actively recruiting crew for an exciting 6-month project beginning in early February 2025. Positions are open for both professional crew and volunteer deckhands, with immediate opportunities to join the Draken team.

Because of the nature of this project, we can’t share that much information at the moment. More information will come when we are allowed to share. One lead, though, we will be sailing somewhere that is warmer than it is in Norway right now.

Process

  1. Application: You will find buttons for application forms below. Submit your application, and include relevant experience, certifications (if applicable), and your motivation for joining the Draken.

  2. Review: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible to secure your spot.

  3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a brief interview to discuss their skills, availability, and suitability for the role.

  4. Selection: Successful applicants will be notified promptly and provided with onboarding details, including travel arrangements and training information.

Professional crew (paid positions)

The professional crew is about 7-8 people onboard Draken.

Requirements:

  • Able Seaman (minimum)

  • STCW Basic Safety

  • Medical Certificate (STCW)

  • Documented tall ship sailing experience

Deckhand crew (volunteer positions)

Onboard Draken is about 20 deckhand crew at one time. The sailing season is divided into different sailing legs. The Deckhand crew is recruited to the different legs. You can volunteer on board for one or several sailing legs.
We prefer deckhands with previous tall ship sailing experience, but it is not required.

Requirements:

  • 18 years and older

  • Good physical and mental health
